I am an Ambivert
I can't take credit for this. Daniel Pink (see his TEDTalk here) specializes in understanding the psychology of how we sell and how we buy. In his findings, he stumbled upon a study for which I've spoiled the results above. Typically, we suspect the gregarious and sometimes outspoken (extrovert) sales person to do well compared to the non-pushy relationship building (introverted) sales person; but the research shows that a group known as the ambiverts does the best. And it makes perfect sense; ambiverts lead when no one else can lead, we pull back when someone drives, we listen when we should listen, and speak when the time is right.
I am an ESTP
I am confident in my own skin and I welcome the opportunity to speak and chat with people either in front of a room or in a one-on-one situation. I also love to just go out on a hike by myself (and my dog) or watch a movie (at a movie theater) by myself. My background is in engineering -- I'd rather apply what is already out there than revolutionize the world, but I like to throw in some creativity and make incremental changes. I am a very logical person; yes, I do get frustrated at times, but I always assume positive intent unless shown otherwise. I like to have plans, but never concrete plans or immobile plans -- we all need goals, but there are going to be multiple ways to get there. And we will get there.
I can't cater towards everyone, so I do have a few flaws. Sometimes my confidence can be construed as arrogance. Other times my logic and reasoning can be construed as pessimism. Respectively, I have been working on my "political" maturity internally and I've ventured closer into realistic territory. It's a part of who I am, but I do know where I am flawed.

Dominance and Conscientiousness
My DiSC profile ties closely with my MBTI (as it should...). My classical pattern is CREATIVE.
My motivation comes from my desire to seek unique accomplishments and innovative solutions (hence sales through innovative approaches). I tend to lead the charge which sometimes can come off as dominating. At work, I welcome change, and when wrenches are thrown into any plan, I quickly adapt and take on incremental changes. Larger decisions, I'll spend a bit more time on, but small ones, let's GTD. I like independent work, and when I need help, I'll ask for it. I am also sometimes a bit blunt with criticism. |
